Automatically Generate Complex Multilingual Catalogs with a PIM System

With the introduction of INCONY’s PIM system ANTEROS, Mitsubishi Electric Living Environment Systems has fundamentally modernized its product data management and catalog production. Instead of time-consuming, error-prone workflows involving redundant data entry and manual translations, the company now relies on centralized data management, streamlined processes, and fully automated print generation. The result: increased efficiency across marketing, sales, and product management, alongside consistent data quality across all output channels.

About Mitsubishi Electric and the Speaker

Mitsubishi Electric is a worldwide leader in electrical and electronic products. Its Living Environment Systems division specializes in heating, cooling, and air conditioning solutions for residential spaces, retail stores, medical and commercial practices, large buildings, data centers, and industrial sites. Having engineered and produced cutting-edge heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems since 1991, Mitsubishi Electric continues to drive innovation across the global market.

Heading the project on Mitsubishi Electric’s side is Klaus Elsner, Team Lead for Segment Marketing and Digitalization. He serves as Team Leader for Segment Marketing and Digitalization and has been with the company since 2012. In this role, he coordinates the project, consolidates requirements across various departments, and ensures the smooth, efficient rollout of ANTEROS.

What Did Data Management and Catalog Production Look Like Before the PIM Rollout?

Prior to introducing the PIM system, Mitsubishi Electric Living Environment Systems managed its product data through an outdated, custom-built MySQL solution whose original developers were no longer available. Data maintenance was heavily catalog-centric and page-based. Changing a single product parameter affected the entire catalog, frequently causing unintended side effects. Translations were extremely labor-intensive, making overall data management complex and prone to errors.

Catalog creation required merging database-driven pages with numerous static, manually built pages in Adobe InDesign. Edits were typically made directly in InDesign, marked up, and revised through multiple back-and-forth review cycles—consuming significant time. Translations had to be coordinated manually via Excel without any automated import capabilities. This resulted in redundant maintenance across both InDesign and the database, including manual adjustments to tables, price updates, and image captions. Producing condensed, excerpt catalogs also demanded extensive manual corrections.

Why ANTEROS Was the Best PIM System for Mitsubishi Electric

The project’s primary objective was to significantly streamline product data management and the translation process. Existing data from SAP and CELUM was to be imported directly and efficiently supplemented with additional data in the PIM system.

Another key priority was achieving a high degree of automation in print publishing. Moving forward, virtually all catalog pages were to be generated 100% automatically, completely eliminating the need for post-processing in InDesign. Producing condensed excerpt catalogs also needed to be fast and frictionless.

Furthermore, the centralized data had to feed seamlessly into the customer and web portals via an interface to ensure consistent information across all channels and minimize maintenance overhead.

INCONY’s ANTEROS proved to be the best software solution to meet all these requirements, establishing the foundation for modernizing processes across Mitsubishi Electric Living Environment Systems.

How Mitsubishi Electric Uses ANTEROS in Daily Work

Data Management in ANTEROS

Data management is structured across multiple levels. Categories serve to organize the extensive product portfolio and form the basis for the catalog's table of contents—for instance, for air conditioning units or ventilation systems. Technical specifications, such as total length or sound pressure level, are recorded via parameters. Relationships between products, particularly between indoor and outdoor units, are mapped accordingly. Shared data across multiple products can be maintained efficiently at the product line and category levels.

Classification

  • Chapter-specific parameter management via the category tree
  • Parameters are inherited by lower levels
  • Standardized specifications for mandatory fields, print display, and product highlights
  • “Parameter Values” tab for standardized highlight copy via predefined selection values

Product Families

  • Variants are grouped into product families
  • Product families can be assigned to multiple categories → appearing across different catalog chapters
  • Efficient parameter maintenance at the category and product family levels
  • Structured parameters consolidate technical specifications such as dimensions, country-specific pricing, or electrical current ratings

Products and Relationships

  • Focus on relationships between indoor and outdoor units
  • Various relation types (e.g., “Outdoor Unit”)
  • Links are established bidirectionally and automatically
  • Maintenance of specific parameters for unit combinations (e.g., cooling or heating capacity)

Streamlined Translation Management with ANTEROS.tm

The translation process has become substantially more efficient through the deployment of ANTEROS.tm. While previously requiring labor-intensive imports as well as markups and manual adjustments in InDesign, Mitsubishi can now look directly at the dictionary interface to see which texts still require translation for any given target language and address them systematically.

German serves as the master source language, where all new copy is entered first. Through the translation workflow integrated directly into ANTEROS, content is translated into English, French, Flemish, Hungarian, and Czech. The ANTEROS dictionary displays real-time translation statuses automatically ("Translation required," "In translation," "Translation approved").

Translations can be edited directly within the system or managed via Excel export and import. Once the completed Excel spreadsheet is re-imported, the status automatically switches to "Approved." This streamlined setup enables the rapid, reliable publication of consistent international catalogs.

Automated Catalog Creation with ANTEROS

Print at the Touch of a Button

Catalogs are produced at the touch of a button: complex publications are generated 100% automatically, saving massive amounts of time and enabling rapid updates. A web form allows teams to control content, language, pricing, and scheduled recurring publishing runs, with automated email notifications also supported.

Excerpt & Condensed Catalogs

Excerpt catalogs and customer-specific publications can be created with ease. Any filter criteria can be applied, such as “all products made of a specific material,” “new arrivals from the last quarter,” or “all products tailored to a specific target market.” Custom editorial feature spreads or tailored packages for tender bids are equally simple to assemble.

Correction Mode for Rapid Revisions

With correction mode, teams can perform their data review directly within the proof PDF. If a product manager spots an error in the PDF, clicking straight on the copy or parameter value jumps directly to the corresponding product and field inside the PIM system, delivering tremendous time savings.

Key Takeaways from Mitsubishi Electric

With ANTEROS, Mitsubishi Electric Living Environment Systems has made product data management significantly more efficient. Product data is maintained centrally in the PIM, and relationships between indoor and outdoor units are mapped with clarity. Translations are easily managed either directly in the dictionary or via export/import workflows. Print generation is both flexible and automated—for full-scale master catalogs as well as customized excerpts. The built-in correction mode allows users to jump directly from the proof PDF to the corresponding field in the PIM, eliminating labor-intensive revision loops. Overall, marketing, sales, and product management benefit from higher levels of automation, consistent data quality, and a drastically reduced workload for global translations and catalog proofing.
